die tafel (the table) In stadtpark burghausen there is a ten-meter long table surrounded by benches. These shimmer in the sunlight and seem to glow magically from within. On the surface of the table one can read texts dedicated to the twin cities of burghausen. They are stories that tell us something of the idiosyncrasies, legendary heroic deeds and chivalry of the inhabitants of these twin cities ptuj (slovenia), hohenstein (germany), fumel (france) and sulmona (italy). The table is a symbol of sitting together, communication and establishing understanding - not only between different peoples but also in one's immediate surroundings and neighbourhood. The long table in the hierarchically structured middle ages was reserved solely for a certain class of society. Due to its new design with contemporary materials it has, in our present democratic societal structure, become a social sculpture that we can all use.
