A participatory installation.

Everyone can participate in the design of an extended GDP term by sending one or more cards of the 9 motifs to the Federal Chancellor.

For the Kunstverein Gießen, these 9 motifs are woven into a wall-filling pattern that reminds us that we are the ones who shape the rules and conditions within our society.
The informative value of GDP with regard to a country's growth and prosperity is currently very limited. On the one hand, an increase in economic performance can also have negative effects on our quality of life and, on the other hand, voluntary work, unpaid familycurrently not counting work, or open-source developments. In addition, factors such as social justice and the state of our nature would have to be taken into account in order toto measure the state of an economy.

So I would ask you, Mr. Chancellor, to take voluntary work into account when calculating GDP in the future. It would also be advisable to extend the coverage area to the European Unionto focus on the concept of prosperity in a broader way and with the new designation that is necessary for this. Only a realistically recorded European wealth index provides information about the quality of life in a region and can thus promote social change.
